Founded in 1907, the Town of Miami is situated in the “Copper Corridor,” an area with a rich history steeped in copper mining. Also referred to as a “copper boom-town,” the Miami community has a unique, historical charm dedicated to highlighting the Town’s cultural heritage and mission-style architecture. Miami residents and visitors alike can enjoy the Town’s homage to Arizona history by visiting the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum and outdoor recreation in the surrounding Pinal Mountains.

Downtown revitalization

Taught by Meagan Ehlenz, a team of Master of Urban and Environmental Planning (MUEP) Planning Workshop students inventoried downtown parcels, facilitate a community preference survey, and create a playbook to guide Miami’s downtown revitalization efforts now and into the future.

Community Reimagined: Miami Downtown Revitalization Plan

Community analysis

Taught by Deirdre Pfeiffer, graduate urban planning students leveraged quantitative skills to gather and synthesize data from a variety of sources to create a “state of Miami” for the Town.

Community Analysis: Leveraging Data for Strategic Development

Community engagement

Taught by Daniel Schugurensky, graduate students from the School of Public Affairs collaborated with Town staff to develop strategies to inform a framework for sustainable growth and development. 

Taught by Greg Broberg, students from the School of Social Transformation interviewed Miami residents to create life histories.
