Growing heat resilience in our community

Created to enhance environmental literacy and inspire teachers and students to connect with nature, fostering a deeper appreciation of trees, our relationship to them and their vital role in climate adaptation and community wellbeing.

The HeatReady Schools + Rio Reimagined Tree Education Toolkit offers a comprehensive range of resources for integrating tree education into classrooms and supporting tree care efforts for community and school arborists.

Adding trees to schoolyards is a long-term commitment to creating safer, healthier and more heat-resilient environments, protecting those most vulnerable to extreme heat’s negative effects. Through comprehensive guides and educational resources, the toolkit empowers students, school staff and community members to plant and maintain trees, contributing to a greener future and supporting Tempe’s goal of a 25% tree canopy by 2040.
