2023 – 2024<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As the fifth largest city in the United States and one of the most populous desert cities in the world, Phoenix thrives because of water resource planning and conservation. With a history stretching from the ancient canals built by Indigenous peoples, to the modern engineering marvel of the Drought Pipeline, history has shown that people on this land will flourish when they are mindful of their water use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is why the City of Phoenix has led the way in water resource planning and conservation. While the City has planned for the future with strategic investments in resilient infrastructure, its residents have spoken with their actions, voluntarily reducing per-person water use by more than 30% since 1990. It is because of these commitments to conservation and the dedication to efficiency that Phoenix has been able to grow its community in a sustainable way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the successful development of residential xeriscape design plans for three standard lot sizes during the spring 2023 semester, the City of Phoenix Water Services Department continued its partnership with an honors undergraduate landscape architecture student to gather feedback from residents, experts, and Home Owner\u2019s Associations (HOAs) on irrigation behaviors and xeriscape practices to inform a series of irrigation design plans to supplement the previously created xeriscape plans. <\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n
