Current opportunities

Science Communications Internship

The Center for Biodiversity Outcomes’ Communications and Social Media Intern will help Center leadership, staff, and graduate students with a wide range of communications tasks. Interns may request specific responsibilities or projects if they wish to focus on developing or exploring a particular skill. They are encouraged to communicate with supervisors regarding job duties. Interns should be averaging approximately 10 hours per week. Please note this is an unpaid position, but we can offer course credit.  General Duties

  • Report and respond to supervisory staff in a prompt and timely manner.
  • Maintain a professional and positive attitude to facilitate a supportive, collaborative work environment.
  • Track and prioritize tasks.
  • Assist with operations tasks as needed.
Communication
  • Post content to social media accounts. Keep accounts active and up to date.
  • Compose media content for the center’s website (news blog, events announcements), while adhering to ASU’s writing guidelines.
  • Assist with marketing and content creation for events and conferences.
  • Draft the quarterly center newsletter.
  • Assist with proofreading, formatting, and copy editing for manuscripts and reports as needed.
  • Update center website and lab website. 
Outreach 
  • Assist with internal and external event planning, marketing, and execution.
  • Attend and participate in outreach events.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with graphic design and image/video editing.
  • Experience with communications work, preferably in a science or technical field.
  • Experience with website design, preferably with the WordPress platform.
  • Basic knowledge of biological/ecological sciences.
